Conveyancing is a term used legally to describe the transfer of ownership, such as is required when buying a property, in England and Wales.
The term “conveyancing” is often first heard by individuals wishing to buy a property when the estate agent asks for their conveyancing solicitors or conveyancers details.
Conveyancing Solicitors or specialist property lawyers known as Licensed Conveyancers carry out the majority of purchase conveyancing transaction in England and Wales. Conveyancing Solicitors and Conveyancers act on behalf of individual clients and financial institutions where mortgage finance is being used, in relation to the conveyancing process required to be undertaken when buying a property.
Conveyancing Process Explained - Purchase of a Property
Conveyancing is a legal and administrative procedure for buying a property. It is usually conducted by a conveyancing solicitor or conveyancer who acts on behalf of both the buyer and any mortgage lender that may be involved.
The seller of the property will usually be represented by their own conveyancing solicitors or conveyancers. It is not usually possible for a conveyancing solicitors firm or Licensed Conveyancing Company to act on behalf of both the buyer and the seller of the same property.
